Ceramic coating or PPF?
The short answer: a ceramic coating protects paint from the environment – UV, dirt, water spots – and halves your washing time. PPF is the only protection that physically stops stone chips. For new and higher-value cars, the best answer is often a combination of both.

Ceramic: the everyday advantage you feel at every wash
A ceramic coating turns the paint surface into a hard, slick, hydrophobic layer. Dirt stops sticking, bugs rinse off in one pass, summer sun stops fading the colour. A wash that used to take two hours takes one. It is protection for anyone who wants the car to look cared-for every day – not just on delivery day.
PPF: physics on your paint's side
No liquid coating stops a stone at 130 km/h. PPF does – the elastic polyurethane layer absorbs the hit and self-heals in the warmth of the sun. That is why I recommend film for the front end of every new car that lives on the motorway: the bonnet, bumper, wings and mirrors take nine out of ten hits.
The combination: film up front, ceramic everywhere
The most common choice among my clients with new cars: PPF across the full front end, then ceramic over the film and the remaining paint. The film stops stones; the ceramic delivers gloss and easy washing for the whole car. It costs less than you would expect, because the car is prepped only once.
My recommendation
Older car with good paint: correction plus ceramic. New daily driver: ceramic, optionally film on the bumper. New car you plan to keep, or lots of motorway: film on the front end and ceramic over everything. In doubt? Are ceramic coating and PPF mutually exclusive?
No – they complement each other. Film protects against physical damage, ceramic against the environment, and ceramic can be applied over the film. “Film up front, ceramic everywhere” is the most common choice for new cars.
What makes more sense for an older car?
For an older car with preserved paint I recommend paint correction and a ceramic coating – the cost of film rarely matches the car's value. Collector cars are the exception, where film preserves the original paint.
What do the two cost together?
Full-front PPF combined with a whole-car ceramic coating starts at around €1,900. I prepare an exact quote after inspecting the car, since the price depends on the paint's condition and the model.
